Affordable housing on South Whidbey: What is it? Who needs it? What’s being done? What more can we do? Why should we do it?

I hope you will join this conversation on March 18th in a community Exchange hosted by the South Whidbey Record. This forum will present a backdrop of rural housing issues and challenges, describe the present need in our own community, what local solutions are in place, and where the gaps are. A panel of presenters will help us understand the both the big picture, and what effect the scarcity of affordable housing has, and is having, right here at home. Plenty of room for questions and answers has been built into this engaging evening.

If you share in a vision of a community that keeps our hard working people living and working here, with enough money at the end of each month to afford groceries and the other real basics in life, this is an evening of discussion you’ll want to be a part of. Let’s come together to listen and learn, and share with others what our thoughts are on housing our local folks.

I believe that sewers in Freeland will go a long way to creating more housing, and that density can also allow more affordable units. The problem always boils down to money. Freelands' sewers are going to be expensive, and the affordable housing sector is very important to consider.
